The Fall 2019 season was sexier than we’ve seen in a while, with designers making generous use of cutouts and revealing miles of legs through slits or short lengths.
Tailoring, a major story in the last round of ready-to-wear shows, was also strong. As Vogue Runway’s Nicole Phelps noted, several collections opened with a suit; Alexandre Vauthier’s were especially neat.
Adding interest to the week’s proceedings were dramatic sleeve and shoulder treatments that nodded, depending on your perspective, to the still-trending 1980s or to seraphim. But the stars of the season were the dream dresses, seemingly inspired by Shakespearean heroines. Many were full-skirted, caped, or had floor-sweeping sleeves. For the client who wears one of these, all the world is sure to be a stage.
